Teresa E. Leitão, a senior researcher from LNEC and AGREEMAR partner, delivered two invited talks this spring, focusing on the role of MAR in addressing climate change and improving water sustainability, looking particularly into agriculture.

Teresa E. Leitão delivered two invited talks on climate change and improving water sustainability through MAR

On March 21, 2025, the talk “Managed Aquifer Recharge to Increase Groundwater Availability and Quality” was presented to the seminar “New Tools for Adapting to Climate Change”, hosted by the Portuguese Agricultures Confederation (CAP) in Lisbon, which explored how MAR can bolster water resilience amidst growing climate change pressures.

In “AGRO, IN 2025” event, the annual agribusiness conference organized by Vida Rural on April 24 in Lisbon, Teresa Leitão presented “Can Aquifer Recharge Management be a Solution to Better Manage Water Reserves?”, emphasizing MAR as a practical solution for securing water resources vital to agricultural productivity.

Both talks highlighted the urgency of sustainable water strategies and the potential of MAR in future-proofing agriculture against the effects of climate variability.
